You probobly have a wire shorting out some place. It shows the components of the circuit as simplified shapes. The wire to the fuel sending in the gas tank might be broken or disconnected.

Looking at the tach setup i discovered that where the signal amplifier is located on the fender was the same connector with just a short cover screwed on, like the other 1984 i saw.
